Assistant Solicitor Jamilla Sabo joins the Brighton Office
17 October 2024
Assistant Solicitor Jamilla Sabo joins the Edward Cooke Family Law team in Brighton, providing additional specialist Family Law expertise at a time of continued growth for the firm.
Jamilla has experience in all areas of family law including divorce, financial settlements and private children matters.
As a member of Resolution and a committed member of YRes, Resolution’s network of family law professionals up to 10 years PQE, Jamilla firmly believes that a non-confrontational approach to family law issues will produce better outcomes for separating families and their children.
Introducing Jamilla Sabo
Jamilla obtained a Law degree-LLB (Hons) at Oxford Brookes University, following which she attained her Legal Practice Course alongside an MSc in Law, Business and Management at the University of Law in Guildford.
She spent over four years at a leading regional firm in Sussex, starting her career as a paralegal specialising in family law and quickly obtaining a training contract with the firm. Jamilla joined Edward Cooke Family Law in October 2024 and is eager to train in all forms of Non-Court Dispute Resolution.
Jamilla is experienced in dealing with all areas of family law work, ranging from nuptial agreements to issues arising on the breakdown of relationships, including financial issues in connection with divorce and separation and child arrangements.
She appreciates that every person’s background and experiences are unique, which is why she thinks it is important to tailor her approach to suit her clients’ needs and goals. Whether it be discussing divorce or dissolution, where the child(ren) are going to live, or a pre-nuptial agreement, Jamilla will take the time to really listen to what each client is saying, to find out what they are hoping to achieve. Whichever direction a client chooses to go in, she will support them with respect, empathy and objectivity to achieve the best outcome, whilst managing expectations.
Lauren Guy, Director and Head of the Brighton office commented:
“Jamilla has hit the ground running and provides a calm and measured approach for clients, whether guiding new clients at the start of their journey or working on established cases to help them reach a successful conclusion. Jamilla is experienced, knowledgeable and supportive, and a great addition to the team.”
Jamilla comments on her new role:
"I am proud to join the team at Edward Cooke Family Law as an Assistant Solicitor, based in our Brighton and Hove office.
Family Law touches the most personal parts of our lives. It is often a challenging time for clients which can lead to unrealistic expectations, both in expecting too much or too little. This is why I think it is crucial to set out the facts to my clients objectively so that they can make an informed decision on how to move forward. Good communication is vital, both in terms of regularity and clarity.
Earlier this year, I engaged in hybrid mediation for the first time. Hybrid mediation provides clients with the opportunity to receive legal advice during the process and hopefully resolve matters outside of issuing court proceedings. As a non-mediator, it was an invaluable experience to be involved in this process. I have always been an advocate for Non-Court Dispute Resolution (‘NCDR’) options, and it was extremely beneficial to see firsthand just how important these alternative processes are.
I acknowledge that not every case will be suitable for NCDR, however, with the update to the Family Procedure Rules in April 2024, NCDR must be given considerable thought before issuing court proceedings. This is what attracted me to Edward Cooke Family Law, as they take pride in reaching solutions without needing to involve the court, through mediation, collaborative law, arbitration and other methods. I am very excited to be a part of such a forward-thinking firm that approaches family law in a modern way."
